A Message From The Founder
I developed the concept of CSRware during my graduate work in Environmental Science when I was exploring other career options. As I began to learn about the potential problems corporations were grappling with, I realized the incredible opportunity I had to communicate to the business world the value of being a responsible member of the community.
The issue was: How?
At the time, there were no software solutions available that could roll-up information to demonstrate the financial value of reducing consumption and explain why securing resources for the future really meant sustainability for future generations of the business and the community it shares.
The Tragedy of the Commons is a dilemma arising from the situation in which multiple individuals, acting independently and rationally, consulting their own self-interest, will ultimately deplete a shared limited resource, even when it is clear that it is not in anyone's long-term interest for this to happen.
The basic idea was to build a software technology which translated complicated scientific algorithms into basic financial concepts easily digestible for those in leadership positions. As I explored ways for organizations to better analyze and visualize the environmental costs of conducting business as usual, it became evident that organizations were first going to have to be educated on sustainability practices. The key learning was the importance of understanding that being environmentally conscientious extends beyond the stereotypical "tree hugger" mentality it has a significant impact on how we will share resources now and preserve them for the future. This meant we had to quickly figure out how to pre-empt a potential issue similar to what we learned in business school: "The Tragedy of the Commons" first described in an influential article written by Garrett Hardin and first published in the journal Science in 1968.
After spending several years in the software and data center communities of Silicon Valley, I came to realize the value of using software analytics solutions to run efficient data center and facility operations. Managing valuable resources efficiently has become a paramount concern across all industries.
